i've been meaning to make this announcement since late December, but i got caught up in travel plans for the holidays, work, and preparation for school. However, this is such important and exciting news that i had to make sure i came back here and let everybody know about it. In mid-December, the Lakotah People withdrew all of their treaties from the United States. This makes them an autonomous entity within our borders (awesome!), and rumor has it that the entire Sioux Nation is planning on doing the same...
Now, all of this hasn't made big headlines, and i imagine there is some sort of media blackout regarding the People's withdrawal. However, news of this is big amongst indy media sources. If, indeed, the lack of attention to the Lakotah's withdrawal is from some government plan to go in there and quash their independence, i (for one) plan to move to stand in solidarity with the Nation. Please inform your friends and please keep informed.
i've included a link straight to the Republic of Lakotah website. Click HERE.

I’m not sure who all was on the line, but the major U08 players included:- Doug Bailey, Arlington, VA, former political consultant, co-founder The Hotline.
- Jim Jonas, Denver, CO. Public affairs consultant and Founder/Partner of Peak Creative Media, CEO of Unity08.
- Hamilton Jordan, Atlanta, GA. Carter White House Chief of Staff, writer, investor; focused on for-profit and non-profit start-ups.
- Angus King, Brunswick, ME. Former two-term independent Governor of Maine, teacher, businessman, attorney.
- James Strock, Scottsdale, AZ. Former California Secretary for Environmental Protection, Author of Theodore Roosevelt on Leadership and Reagan on Leadership.
1. Unity08 has a two-tiered criterion for declaring victory. They obviously know they’re up against a huge challenge in trying to win the White House. Bailey noted (I think it was Bailey - the audio wasn’t great at this point) that they recognize the need to get their nominated ticket on all 50 state ballots, and they also recognize that the two major parties have constructed laws in all states that make it extremely difficult for third parties to get in the game. (He didn’t use the word “rigged,” but I will.)
So there’s no shiny happy podium-thumping about the project. ( Read more... )

New Political Organization Seeks to Elect Bipartisan “Unity Ticket” in ‘08- Group headed by prominent Republican and Democratic leaders - Poll: 85 percent say country so polarized that Washington solve nation’s problems - Ticket to be chosen via first-ever online convention - "...everybody we've talked to outside the political establishement gets it immediately." by Sam Smith Tuesday, May 30, 2006 8:00 am EDT
Denver, CO - A prominent group of centrist political activists who have become disenchanted with the increasing polarization of American politics today launched a new initiative called Unity '08. This effort has as its primary mandate to present voters an "alternative ticket...headed by a woman and/or man from each major party, or by an independent who presents a Unity Team from both parties. By electing a Unity Ticket to the White House, Unity08 plans to force the country’s Democratic and Republican leaders to cease their runaway focus on the issues of outlying special-interest groups and once again align with the aspirations and will of average Americans."

I am new here, and wanted to post some info that i feel needs to be public. If you find this interesting please repost.
Do you give a fuck about your FREEDOM...? Think about it... It IS getting taken away, bit by bit. This is no longer a "free" country.
I totally understand the need for rules, and boundries- but when our goverment starts telling us the press is not ALLOWED to talk about anything negitive about the goverment, there is a real problem.

___________________________________________________________________ So far, it looks as though Bush does better on foreign policy when he's being an isolationist. Maybe he should just stay home and cut taxes for the rich some more, or go expose some CIA agent for political payback against her husband, or just spy on a lot of American pacifists. The atricle. ___________________________________________________________________ "WASHINGTON -- Reporters who write about government surveillance could be prosecuted under proposed legislation that would solidify the administration's eavesdropping authority, according to some legal analysts who are concerned about dramatic changes in U.S. law." The atricle. ___________________________________________________________________ "States have steadily limited the public's access to government information since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, a new Associated Press analysis of laws in all 50 states has found. Legislatures have passed more than 1,000 laws changing access to information, approving more than twice as many measures that restrict information as laws that open government books." The atricle.

Sevral websites are being restricted in Iraq- mostly about democracy, and politics. Sounds to me that the goverment doesnt want the Iraqi people knowing what democracy TRUELY is. The atricle.

Even if there was an omnipotent being (which of course there isn't), why would people assume that he/she/it is honest and benevolent? If one is capable of anything, one is also capable of deceit, manipulation and opression. Much like political leaders at the top lie and decieve, could not "God" do so as well? The Christian God, if he/she/it existed, could possibly be sadistic and have created humans just to watch them struggle and suffer, and the ten commandments could be one such method, restraining people from various actions that are second nature to them.
Also, a lot of Southern Baptists interpret the bible literally (whereas I see it as a metaphorical story, much like the Odyssey). Does that mean they refuse to have their blood drawn, since "He that sheds man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed?"

For a free copy of "Finding Faith in Christ," call 1-800-373-4747 or talk to a Morman neighbor. I'm sure if every single one of us orders a video, they'll run out, and truly prospective Christians will be out of luck.

I suggest that you visit http://whatreallyhappened.com/
There is an archive of at least one hundred articles a day gathered from published newspapers around the world. The website has changed drastically over the recent months showing how popular it has become. It reports the news that the American media does not televise.

Nation-Wide Student Protest - March 19th 2004
Hello everyone,
Just wanted to let you know about the nation-wide student protest planned for March 19th, 2004, in commemoration of the one year anniversary of the war in Iraq. Please read the call to action, and if you are interested, forward it along to anyone and everyone who might be willing to participate in a demonstration as well. The SDP's website is http://sdp.webhop.net
Thanks!
EDIT: Sorry I didn't make this clear earlier.
The protest on the 19th is a *student* protest, not meant to detract from the events of the 20th. It is a show of student solidarity against the War in Iraq and in expression of our discontent with the state of the union. We are encouraging all students who are participate in the events of the 19th to attend protests on the 20th as well.
The idea is to get demonstrations on college campuses where they have thus far been lacking in strength and numbers.

http://www.livejournal.com/community/intelligentones
I never realized how many people out there had an interest in intelligence. I knew people liked intelligence and competence, but I never knew there was such an interest. I typed in intelligence and intelligent conversation in the interest box in Live Journal today, and I was very surprised at the amount of results I came up with. I never thought that so many other people would put that down as an interest. So I'm making this community for the "Intelligent Ones." It will be nice to just sit back and have a conversation with an assortment of different people. I personally love intelligence, and anyone who is a highly intellectual person. So if you are interested in participating in some intelligent conversation, or maybe just posting a poem, story, or song, feel free. This community is open to be whatever you want it to be. I am looking forward to it. I'd love to learn whatever I can be taught. I'd also like to teach where I can be of some assistance. Hopefully this will really turn into something good.
Challenge Everything.
Regards, Me

U.S. Official: No Truth to Rumor Bin Laden Captured Thu January 22, 2004 10:47 AM ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - There is no truth to a rumor in the foreign exchange markets that al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has been captured, a U.S. official said on Thursday. "It's not true," the official said when asked about the rumor. Traders cited the rumor as one reason why the dollar gained ground.
U.S. forces have been hunting for bin Laden since the Sept. 11, 2001, hijacked plane attacks on America that were blamed on al Qaeda.
While other al Qaeda leaders have been captured or killed, bin Laden has remained elusive and is believed to be hiding in the border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The bin Laden market rumor was also fueled by news that Treasury Secretary John Snow would hold a briefing to announce a joint U.S. action with Saudi Arabia in the financial war on terrorism.
Now I don't mean to be sounding like some conspiracy-theory crackpot but could they just be denying this so that they can release this information at a more useful time, say just before a certain presidential election?

Bean counters, technocrats, aparatchik, and intellectuals trying to steer a steady course: various webscasts from the "World Economic Forum" in Davos</a>. (At least a few [not least Sergei Karaganov, chairman of the Council for Foreign and Defense Policy] are really concerned by increased militarization after a period of decrease ... see US VP Cheney's talk for an example of that.)

One thing about crypto-fascists: their loyalty makes no reference to truth, honesty, or integrity ... it's all about staying on-side.
Bush Lies Again - Don't you just love a President who takes responsibility?"There was George Bush at his press conference, answering a tough question about his triumphant arrival on the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln and the "Mission Accomplished" sign there. Bush said that sign was not the brilliant idea of one of his ingenious advance men. No, not at all, Bush said. The soldiers aboard ship thought that one up. It was a classic, Clintonian, reflex of a liar."
